ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Kaja Dunn writes about Black American intimacy: Considerations for Choreography and Practice. Kaja Dunn was the first person to officially offer classes on race and intimacy choreography. She is the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist for Theatrical Intimacy Education. She works as an intimacy professional on TV/film and in theatre on Broadway, regionally and in academia. In this chapter, she writes about culturally competent choreography, harmful tropes and history. This chapter will speak to Black Americans: their specificity, resilience and the ways in which intimacy shows up in all orientations.
