ABSTRACT
This is an introductory chapter that examines the meaning of health for different sections of society and discusses the perceptions of health and illness. It explains in brief different models of health and factors that influence our health status. This chapter, then, goes on to examine the work of public health and health promotion and the workforce involved in these areas. There are activities for readers on how they view health and consideration of certain factors which influence health.
