ABSTRACT

This chapter examines trends in international life expectancy and healthy life expectancy and changes in the causes of disease and disability. It goes on to state modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors for the major causes of disease worldwide and the contrast between the developed and the developing world. There is a specific focus on the major risk factors for coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer, Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Activities for the reader are around personality types and risk-taking and completion of an online package giving tips for discussion of modifiable risk factors with clients or patients.
