ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to health inequalities, a major focus of public health and health promotion. It introduces the concept of an individual's right to good health and highlights the inequalities that exist between wealthy and poor nations as well as between different levels of society within nations. It provides a detailed focus on the work to address inequalities in health using the UK experience as a specific example. The COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine hesitancy is given as a specific example of health inequalities and forms the basis of a reader activity. Another activity provides detailed instructions to enable the reader to perform their own brief research into inequalities of health.
