ABSTRACT

The author compares Sandplay Therapy, as developed originally by Dora Kalff (1904–1990), a scholar of C.G. Jung, with the practice of Active Imagination. With the help of numerous examples from the therapeutic work with adult clients, one notion becomes evident: the first three stages of Active Imagination, as described by C.G. Jung, in the practice of Sandplay Therapy, are condensed in one. What both approaches have in common is the creation of an inner relational space, which allows a dialogical attitude to unfold and allows the client to deal consciously with unconscious conflicts.
