ABSTRACT

The chapter tells the story of the author’s relationship with the method of Active Imagination: from her childhood experiences of personification and dialogue with the unconscious images, to the professional sharing of this way of knowing oneself and the world, up to the teaching of trainees and the formalization of the method in theoretical and practical transcultural modules. The author refers to her Active Deep Writing technique as a preparatory tool developed over time to teach the method practically. The chapter also questions the possibility of integrating into the teaching and practice of Active Imagination theoretical references and clinical modalities belonging to other paradigms, such as Stephen W. Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and Francine Shapiro’s Accelerated Information Processing Model.
