ABSTRACT

Firmly armed with 18 distinct descriptors for the true Africana woman, refined and put forth in the mid-1980s, Africana Womanism has proven to be a highly workable tool of analysis for Africana literary texts. To this end, addressing the vast cadre of tragic incidences, such as modern-day lynchings, recurring time and again in our communities globally, this chapter focuses on the highly visible and appropriate novel of today, Angie Thomas’ 2017 National Award-Winning novel, The Hate U Give, a powerful literary symbol of modern-day lynchings. In reiterating the significance of Collectivity and Connectivity for Black men and women, people come to truly appreciate this much needed means by which they may more expeditiously satisfy their quest for true freedom. Thus, whether one agrees with the Constitutional Rights of all, African Americans must hold America accountable via holding its feet to the fire, including demands for Reparations.
