ABSTRACT

From Africa to Europe and now to America, scholars have embraced the global theory of Africana Womanism. For over three decades, Africana Womanism, earlier called Black Womanism in the mid-1980s, has been authentically operating and working from a family- centered perspective within a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary context for global Africana women and their families. Africana-Melanated Womanism, rooted in blackness, reflects the persuasion of many diverse women, who have found the Africana Womanism theory more compatible with their level of existence. The key to the true meaning of Africana Womanism is its mandate for inclusion of the whole family, men included, while highlighting also the very presence and role of the Africana Womanist in concert with her male companion in the ongoing cooperative struggle against racial dominance. Africana-Melanated Womanism, indeed, grows out of this powerful tradition and commitment.
