ABSTRACT
When one looks at the economic problems within the Africana family, one invariably comes back to the problem and interference of racism, which strongly impacts upon the economic realities of the Africana family and community. To be sure, addressing critical underlying issues within the established political, social and economic structures is a sound approach, one which merits serious consideration. Africana-Melanated Womanism meets that demand as an appropriate global construct designed with that in mind. Dr. Muwati advised the author that because of the significance Africana Womanism and its applicability worldwide in the face of widespread societal upheaval due to global racism, the university wanted to host the 1st International Africana Womanism Conference for that following year, 2010. The dominant culture would then be more appreciative of and sensitive to the true dilemma of others as shared by the insiders from an authentic Africana-Melanated perspective.
