ABSTRACT

Africana Womanism, a term that grew out of the need to identify the existence of Africana women the world over and their struggle for the survival of all Africana people, proves to be both a logical and workable concept for African diaspora women. The needs of Africana women are real, just as the needs of any other group are; however, the solutions for Africana people cannot be found or resolved within the context of an alien ideology. One must look from within the culture in order to decode the multifaceted issues before the dynamics of the problems can be properly addressed. As the agenda of the Africana woman is different from that of any other group due to her threefold position, the solutions must be tailored to fit her particular reality. Africana-Melanated Womanism strongly represents an historical legacy, firmly rooted in Black life.
