ABSTRACT

The energy of Eros, god of connection, relationship, generation, and transformation, is intrinsic to Jung's psychology and psychotherapeutic approach and its telos of expanding and creating consciousness in the individual. The author discusses how some of her work on images and fantasies in therapy with an analyst demonstrated to her the necessary contribution of Eros energy to the unconscious aims and ends – the telos – of all psychic activity, towards transformation and healing. The chapter ends with some reflections on rehabilitating Eros in the individual and the wider society.
