ABSTRACT

Tyler is a 16-year-old swimmer who is experiencing anxiety, decreased confidence, and pressure to perform in order to swim in college. After hitting a plateau three years ago, he’s experienced several changes – transitioning to a different club team, working with a new coach, declines in his social life, his mom getting diagnosed with cancer, meeting with a therapist, and suffering a minor back injury. Tyler’s coach has expressed concern about his ability to endure the upcoming summer training based on his recent practices and general mentality. After taking a break from the sport and discussing his swimming and school goals with his supportive parents, Tyler’s mom searched for “mental coaching” online and found your website. Tyler is looking for sport-specific support in building mental skills that will help him return to club practices, get back in shape, and work toward achieving goal times in his best events.
