ABSTRACT

The Parallel Curriculum Model (PCM) is a concept-based approach to developing curriculum for a broad range of students including, but not limited to, high-performing and high-potential learners. PCM includes four parallel ways of thinking about and designing curriculum and key components or elements that modify in response to the parallel in which they are used. PCM is designed to encourage teachers to help students make sense of what they learn by using any or all of four parallel ways of experiencing content. PCM suggests that key curricular components deserve careful consideration as teachers plan curriculum. The Curriculum of Connections helps students see how one facet of science relates to other facets. It helps them see meaningful connections between literature and math. The Practice Curriculum connects students with the world outside their classrooms.
