ABSTRACT

Success for All began in one Baltimore primary school in 1987–8, and since then has expanded each year to additional schools. As of Spring 2003, the programme is in about 1,500 schools in 500 districts in 48 states throughout the United States, and has been adapted for use in schools in England, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Israel. Success for All has somewhat different components at different sites, depending on the school's needs and resources available to implement the programme. The current version of the Success for All programme for reception is called KinderCorner. This programme focuses on providing a balanced and developmentally appropriate learning experience for young children. Success for All uses a reading curriculum based on research and effective practices in beginning reading, and on effective use of co-operative learning. At eight-week intervals, reading teachers assess student progress through the reading programme.
