ABSTRACT

The presence of a fragment of Nabataean on papyrus in the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford, came to my attention through the drawing of it which appeared in Ada Yardeni's Textbook of Aramaic. Hebrew and Nabataean Documentary Texts (Yardeni 2000a: A, 302). On investigation it became clear that the fragment had never been formally published. It is with the agreement of Dr Yardeni and the permission of the Bodleian Library that this important fragment is now presented. I have made use of Dr Yardeni's drawing of the fragment, while the Bodleian Library provided photographs. I have benefited greatly from the advice of Professor David Thomas and Dr Nikolaos Gonis, who was kind enough to examine the fragment before giving me advice on the Greek which also appears on it.
