ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the joint implementation projects selected for detailed analysis in a study. It sets out the selection process, describing the original large project set and the criteria under which this set was subsequently narrowed down. The chapter provides brief country contexts for each of the chosen host countries and the main donor countries. It then details the data collection process and reflect on some of the difficulties involved. The chapter also discusses the insights generated as a result of the data collection process. The Czech Republic is an inland country lying in the central part of Europe. Estonia is in the north-western part of Europe on the Baltic Sea. Estonia is relatively rich in natural resources, both mineral and biological. The government of the Czech Republic is much more active in activities implemented jointly (AIJ) than that of Estonia. This seems paradoxical since Estonia currently has more AIJ projects in place than does the Czech Republic.
