ABSTRACT
As I studied to become a doula, 1 my personal experiences with medical violence started to make sense. When I was younger, an ob-gyn cut me with a speculum during an exam and sent me home with a pad without apologizing. It happened twice more after that. Each time I felt more ashamed of my body and more afraid to ask questions.
