ABSTRACT
Apart from the isolated and unstable occupance related to mineral exploitation and trade routes, there are three main types of arid zone occupance: oasis settlement, sedentary settlement of semi-arid lands, and nomadic occupance which may be found in both semi-arid and arid areas.
