ABSTRACT
In the arid regions even more than elsewhere, water is truly the basis of life for man, for beast and for plants. Moreover, it is not only a matter of quantity, for unless the water is also of suitable quality it is useless, and in some arid areas the problem is in fact more one of quality than of quantity.
