ABSTRACT

This chapter features multi-campus faculty learning communities (FLCs) designed to support the psychological safety and visibility of mid-career faculty participants. We provide guidance for designing and facilitating similar FLCs by capitalizing on two essential features. First, our consortium-wide context allowed us to build FLCs composed of faculty from different campuses. Next, our approach to facilitation of the FLCs focused on participants’ psychological visibility and safety – or helping them feel seen and heard in a community where they could then be honest with themselves and others. The combination of the FLC structure and our approach to facilitation supported participants’ hard work of reflecting on their values, their goals, and their futures.
