This introduction provides an overview of the volume as a whole. Beginning with a discussion of Middleton's reputation in his own time, it continues to assert the objectives of this book and consider what makes Middleton so worthy of celebration today. It concludes with a roadmap of the book's contents, establishing the aim of each of the book's three sections and introducing each of the chapters contained therein.
