ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the nexus between xenophobia and discourse and then demonstrates the functional relationship between media and xenophobia and how it operates. The xenophobia constructed by the media about refugees and immigrants in different parts of the world is discussed, and how the threat image constructed against refugees and immigrants affects their rights and safety is briefly highlighted. This chapter also provides a brief overview of each chapter in the four parts of this book: (1) Principles and practices of Journalism of Tolerance. (2) Media stereotyping of minorities and women. (3) Politics of xenophobia and portrayal of enemy image. (4) Social media and xenophobia.
