ABSTRACT
The translation and introduction of Ba Jin's creations in Russia (which should be called the Soviet Union at that time) began with the visit of Ba Jin to Russia in 1954, because of the non-party member status of Ba Jin and the exchange between China and the Soviet Union mainly focusing on politics at that time. After the visit, his works were successively translated into Russian and published until the relationship between China and the Soviet Union broken down in the 1960s. Studies on Ba Jin in Russia are in a paralleled but not fully consistent status with the translation of his works. Although some single research articles and works have been published since the 1950s, studies on Ba Jin have not been carried out comprehensively and in depth. A relatively significant study on Ba Jin was the “International Seminar on the Study of Far East Literature” held at St. Petersburg State University in June 2004 to commemorate Ba Jin's 100th birthday, which played a role in driving the development of his studies in Russia.
