ABSTRACT

This chapter will analyze the Amazon prime series Made in Heaven using the theoretical frameworks of intersectionality and phenomenological modes. It will focus on the representation of the female characters and their alliance formation with the non-heteronormative characters in the series. The construction of these identities will be explored particularly in the context of the mediation of images in social media and the politics of the representation of bodies through the use of surveillance. The chapter will track the defamiliarization of the trope of the hyper-aesthetic Bollywood wedding to reveal the hegemonic structures that exist in the societal networks of Delhi by looking at the interconnections between the axis of gender, age, class, and sexuality. The contrast and coexistence of the upper-class lives and the underbelly of the city will be explored along with the reconfiguration of the capital city from the point of view of the creators of the series.
