ABSTRACT

The chapter explores the demand for agricultural commodities in Karnataka with the help of secondary data sources. What will be the nature of the market for agricultural commodities in the future? For which commodities will demand increase in the food basket? The chapter will give some of the probable answers to these queries. The nature of agriculture is mostly domestic demand-driven, and it is based on the disposable income, tastes, and preferences of people, increasing urbanisation, changing lifestyles, and health consciousness. The demand for milk, meat, and horticulture products like fruits and vegetables was found to be high compared to cereals and pulses.
