ABSTRACT

In early autumn of 2021, I was sitting on the hard leather seats of our public mental health clinic. On this particular afternoon, my counsellor was talking about my climate anxiety – something she didn’t seem to want to talk about. What I heard helped me understand why so many young people are anxious about the future we’re creating, but not in the way I expected. But before I explain exactly what changed my assumptions about society's perception of climate anxiety that afternoon, I want to share some thoughts, experiences, and questions for deliberation.
