ABSTRACT

The concept of sustainable development, dating back to the 1980s, occupies an important role in the agendas of many countries and international organizations. At the same time, the role of capital markets is gaining more and more importance in the idea of sustainable development. This may be driven by an increasing interest of various groups of stakeholders in environmental issues in terms of investments through capital markets. The purpose of this chapter is to analyse the role of capital markets as an element of broadly understood finance in sustainable development.
