ABSTRACT

Opportunities for online faculty professional development for digital accessibility are on the rise. This chapter presents three examples of faculty development that showcase innovative ideas for inclusive and accessible digital spaces, including FaculTea, virtual fishbowl, and asynchronous certificate programming. Together, these three formats provide quality, online faculty development that fosters professional relationships and equips faculty to serve all students. Faculty development promotes educators’ ability to design quality online courses by building their knowledge, skills, and confidence. As the demand for online instruction increases and technology evolves, faculty seek opportunities to develop specialized skills in digital accessibility. Certification programs foster a structured faculty development experience. A tiered, 6-week asynchronous certificate allows for hands-on exploration of digital accessibility and inclusive teaching practices that culminate in a certificate of completion. Certificate programs allow universities to measure collective progress among faculty and take advantage of communities of practices.
