The paper evaluates the specificity of modern Punjabi poetry, along with its varied and multi-faceted readings by literary historians and critics. In terms of theme, form, style, and technique, modern Punjabi poetry came upon the scene with the start of the 20th century. Readings coloured by historical sense, ideological concern, and awareness of tradition have led to various types of reactions and interpretations.
