ABSTRACT

The essay deals with the development of the modern Punjabi novel with its ups and downs and its experiments following the developments in the western novel, especially the stream of conscious movement. Even though the Punjabi novel hasn’t seen rapid growth in the last decade, nevertheless we can’t ignore its progress in terms of its realism. Even after the doing away with the plot by the modern novelists, the plot has not died yet, and it is possible that it will live in Punjabi novels. The traditional protagonist, however, is dead for sure. Modern writers want to understand life and its substance. They are always in search of new techniques for this purpose.
