ABSTRACT
The essay deals with the concept of meta-criticism and makes a commentary on the origins of Punjabi literary criticism and concludes by evaluating of the work done in the field. Meta-study is the name of a discipline based on the understanding, analysis and evaluation of literary studies. Just as literature cannot be imagined without the existence of life, and literary study cannot happen without the existence of literature, so meta-study cannot assume its existence without the existence of literary study. Despite being spread over a long period of time, and large from a quantitative point of view (about 1,500), Punjabi research work includes only a dozen works undertaken for the study of Punjabi criticism. Undoubtedly, there is a gap between the importance of this work and the research being done.
