ABSTRACT

Punjabi Dalit poetry or Dalit awareness poetry is currently presenting itself as a major challenge. Can this poetry be understood within its historical and political context? It is difficult to judge by the study of this poetry in its purely aesthetic medium, language or style, as at present this poetry is emerging as a special political discourse. Undoubtedly, this political discourse has its own ideological differences, which are discussed in this essay. But before understanding the various ideological discourses of contemporary Dalit poetry, it is necessary to look at the historical and political context of modern Dalit consciousness.
