ABSTRACT
History of literature can primarily be written chronologically, or in historical sequence of beginning and development of various genres. There are many problems in such a division. There is disagreement regarding the division of history into periods, scholars do not agree to the point of beginning of Punjabi literature, and it is difficult to classify varied literatures of north India in terms of the languages. This essay is an attempt to navigate through these difference of opinions towards a comprehensive history of Punjabi literature.
