ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the theoretical framework, exploring new concepts and practices of civil society organisations’ (CSOs) public diplomacy caused by technical constraints, policies and political and social shifts, their impact on CSOs’ operational efficiency and effectiveness on grassroots engagement, change and community development and how this can be understood. This chapter speaks clearly about these definitions and concepts in reference to the existing literature. It also introduces CSOs’ experiences and case studies of civil society engagement in public diplomacy activities. In other words, it discusses the significance of public diplomacy tools, campaigns and strategies by reflecting on the relationship between CSOs, donors and grassroots groups and their impact on community development and change processes as street-level diplomacy.
