ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the unique personal experiences of adjunct faculty and the types of services, programs, and recognition efforts that are vitally important to supporting adjunct faculty in their teaching. It includes descriptions of comprehensive, large-scale programs and smaller offerings and demonstrates the positive impact that both can have. The chapter describes a wide range of programs that demonstrate creativity in both outreach and recognition of adjunct faculty. It describes how a college or university might come to not only understand the needs of adjunct faculty but also involve adjunct faculty in their own advocacy. The chapter deploys an annual survey to gather demographic information and feedback about communication preferences, instructional resources, and climate issues.
