ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the argument that adjuncts writing and circulating personal narratives can make significant headway in connecting disparate factions of college personnel, whether they be adjunct, tenure line, multiyear contracted, graduate teaching assistants, administrators, or trustees. It discusses how adjunct story telling might cultivate narratives that foster a sense of community among faculty, as well as with administrators and others in positions of power who can advocate for better adjunct faculty working conditions. The gap or disconnect among faculty, felt most brutally by adjuncts, is multifaceted. The chapter traces a significant viral story of adjunct maltreatment and call for more critical stories to fracture dominant narratives of postsecondary faculty in the United States and bring about social justice in the treatment of adjuncts across American higher education.
