ABSTRACT

Most of the sketches are fairly short and usually include character-audience interaction. The Players are used extensively in the center’s programming, with performances included in campus-wide orientations and seminars as well as customized retreats and workshops for departments and schools. Evaluations done on the impact of CRLT Players’ performances indicate that the sketches have an immediate and a lasting impact on audience members. The use of role-play as a pedagogical tool has a rich history, spanning multiple disciplines, and deserving of careful attention beyond the scope of this chapter. In the workshop on consulting around student ratings, participants receive an overview of the research on student ratings as well as a guide to help them interpret the summary report results. During the past ten years the authors have learned that theatre has the power to open up difficult conversations among faculty, TAs, and academic administrators.
