ABSTRACT

Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) has many good ideas about teaching and learning. However, these initiatives will not come to fruition unless the people engage in three very basic activities: making the teaching center visible to its constituents, offering incentives and opportunities to these constituents so they will want to use the center’s services, and then meeting their needs. CRLT has been hosting the university’s New Faculty Orientation for decades. A hallmark of CRLT programs is the opportunity for faculty to network, and faculty always enjoy meeting colleagues. One of the services CRLT provides to the individual units, and to the provost, is targeted research to help them gather the data they need to address specific issues. CRLT offers expertise and infrastructure that can help the provost, deans, and chairs address their priorities, as well as a flexible staffing structure that can be deployed as needed.
