ABSTRACT

Many teaching centers at doctoral institutions offer teaching orientations as a core part of their programming for graduate student development. However, CRLTs teaching orientations are often the first PFF experience for graduate students who are new to teaching at an institution like UM, laying the foundation on which other PFF programs may build. Teaching orientations provide opportunities for these developmentally advanced instructors to design and facilitate pedagogy workshops and microteaching sessions under the mentorship of teaching center staff. To better prepare a select group of advanced postdocs to teach effectively as future faculty and to be more competitive in the job market, CRLT and the Graduate School collaborate to provide the Postdoctoral Short-Course on College Teaching in Science and Engineering (PSC). Many teaching centers at doctoral institutions offer teaching orientations as a core part of their programming for graduate student development.
