ABSTRACT

While information on the role of a restorative justice facilitator is readily available in myriad places, this chapter aims to draw attention to the specific additional roles that university employees bear when facilitating restorative practices. It highlights the imperative to serve responsibly, particularly when supporting those impacted by sexual misconduct, and bearing in mind the additional responsibilities conferred when facilitating restoratively as educators or campus administrators. The chapter also includes thoughts on being multipartial and attentive to power dynamics. Maintaining mindful attention on the process and act of facilitating, even more so than on any outcomes, is helpful when facilitating repair and restoration. Being a multipartial, restorative facilitator of sexual harms also means that we extend equitable amounts of respect, care, and even empathy to those who are accused of having caused harm, while balancing support and accountability.
