ABSTRACT

Guiding and planning documents will often contain specific learning outcomes and program/operational outcomes. These can also be extremely beneficial when identifying the purpose of an assessment because they provide specific criteria for success. The respondents’ level of contact with the individual or group conducting the assessment and their level of investment in the subject of the assessment will greatly influence the potential success of various methods. These two factors can help determine the level of commitment respondents will have when completing an assessment. Assessing learning is high priority on most campuses regardless of whether one is talking about curricular or cocurricular learning. Learning can be assessed using a variety of methods; however, these methods can greatly influence the kind of learning assessment that is being done. In higher education institutions, everyone plays a role in organizational politics regardless of whether one is located in academic affairs, student affairs, or business management. Power struggles between actors most commonly emerge over resources.
