ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors focus on the communication and use of assessment results in a community or two-year college setting. They introduce and discuss a variety of tools to “close the loop” and offer insights for using the results of assessment to inform accountability measures and enhance student learning development. Institutional communications also demonstrated how corporate administrators and the board fit into the strategic planning and budgeting process so their roles and responsibilities were transparent. Heald’s methods for using and communicating the results of SLO assessment have evolved significantly since systematic program review and SLO assessment was developed in 2008. The standardized communication supports the effective use of results and provides stakeholders with access to relevant and useful results that may be used to improve student learning and development. Finally, the authors allow the reader to learn from our assessment “story” in an effort to inform the creation or continuation of effective and sustainable assessment practices.
