ABSTRACT

Strategic planning—which encompasses the need to manage resources at the macro level—is strongly tied to the concept of outcomes-based assessment program review. The concept of organizational members and leaders being able to adapt to the changing environment denotes a concept of the learning that must occur within the organization. The education of organizational members further ensures a common basis for the adaptation that is so important in a group collaborating for change. Both academic and student affairs/services leadership should be aware; however, that change can destabilize an organization and may be risky. It is important to ensure that the organizational change is consistent with the overall strategic plan and follows the mission, vision, and values of the institution. The inclusion of learning outcomes in each department’s budget preparation process should be part of the strategic initiative identification and implementation process.
