ABSTRACT

Field experiences that incorporate student use of ePortfolio pedagogy have the potential to be holistic and transformative, guiding students to use their learning to further their perspectives and inspire action. Baines’s deep understanding of ePortfolio pedagogy, when combined with Wilson’s early experiences with ePortfolio use in global learning experiences, provided an opportunity to develop a systematic, structured pedagogical approach that is transformative for students. The depth of the student learning before, during, and after the students’ global experiences was closely linked to the ePortfolio pedagogy implemented as part of the program structure. ePortfolio technology makes learning visible to authentic audiences and supports the holistic and longitudinal aspects of global learning, allowing for the extension of learning beyond the course and travel experience to include the entire learning experience. Many lessons emerged from developing and implementing a robust ePortfolio practice for short-term study abroad at a community college.
