ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with assessment of general education and the development of ePortfolio pedagogy across the disciplines. It then describes Salt Lake Community Colleges (SLCC’s) support system and how we make ePortfolio central to key faculty processes at the institution. The chapter shares evidence of ePortfolio’s impact on student intentionality with respect to learning outcomes and on faculty understanding of its impact on SLCC’s general education program. Jessica Berryman’s encourages students to engage in extensive reflection and inquiry about personal and academic connections. She uses well-thought-out reflection prompts, and her students keep a course journal of reflections on the Biology page in their ePortfolio. ePortfolio is both a disruptive technology and a new pedagogy for faculty and students. Leveraging resources is key, because students and faculty need to be supported as they learn to make the best use of the technology and embrace reflective pedagogy.
