ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study by describing the ePortfolio strategies used by Manhattanville’s ePortfolio team in each sector of the Catalyst Framework. In January 2016, Manhattanville College, a pioneer in portfolio-based education, launched Atlas, a sequence of ePortfolio-based, scaffolded, credit-bearing courses designed for different phases of student development, emphasizing reflective practice, integration of learning experiences, and career preparedness. Atlas rose, like the phoenix, from the ashes of a long-standing institutional portfolio initiative: the Manhattanville Portfolio System. As the Manhattanville Portfolio entered the twenty-first century, problems were starting to surface. Manhattanville, like many other small, private liberal arts colleges across the country, faced significant budgetary challenges post-2008. In the Spring and Fall of 2010, Manhattanville participated in the Making Connections project at LaGuardia Community College. The platform’s stability has led to user confidence, playing a key role in our ability to focus on scaling up professional development at Manhattanville.
