ABSTRACT

The impact of ePortfolio integration on student success can be substantial, but only when it is “done well,” including an emphasis on metacognitive skills and reflective practice that helps students understand their learning process and develop a commitment to college success. As the Catalyst Framework suggests, both students and faculty need support as they engage in the Inquiry, Reflection, and Integration process. A two-semester sustained professional development pedagogy seminar is integral to BCC’s ePortfolio Program. FYS ePortfolio integration at BCC illustrates the inextricability of the Catalyst Framework sectors of Integrative Social Pedagogy and Professional Development. A qualitative assessment of FYS ePortfolio implementation helps explain the high-impact catalysts influencing student success demonstrated in the statistics. In summary, EPTF—faculty who completed the ePortfolio seminar—showed stronger assessment numbers for the pedagogical elements over the more strictly technical.
