ABSTRACT

The ePortfolio practices described in this chapter were developed to enhance students' experience in 2 distinct settings: an intensive summer science research program and a large general education class in Child Development. ePortfolios provided students with a permanent record of their work and allowed faculty to assess applied and collaborative learning. Child Development is a large lower level class that fulfills an elective requirement for psychology majors and a general education requirement. The ePortfolio practices described are both examples of Integrative Social Pedagogy as outlined in the Catalyst Framework, in which ePortfolio practice enhances curricula by having students construct and then communicate understanding to an authentic audience. In Child Development ePortfolio assignments, students described and integrated several broad concepts, reflected on how the concepts related to a real-world situation, and applied reflections to propose future plans.
