ABSTRACT

The Dublin City University (DCU) learning portfolio journey started in 2012 with the inclusion of ePortfolio in the university’s Strategic Plan. The Catalyst Framework describes effective ePortfolio use as a set of pedagogies and practices that are supported by an integrative, digital platform. The Technology sector of the Catalyst Framework identifies collaboration with stakeholders to establish goals and needs as a key step in the platform selection process. The selection of pilot projects occurred throughout the development and testing period. Leveraging the technology to capture information on how students were using ePortfolio was important to support their impactful use of ePortfolio. Building community through collaboration has been a central theme of DCU’s technology implementation. The Professional Development sector of the Catalyst Framework emphasizes the need to focus on ePortfolio pedagogy using an Inquiry approach. ePortfolio practice is most effective when it connects learning across courses and semesters and enhances learning through Integrative Social Pedagogy.
