ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the usage clickers in classroom when teaching biostatistics. Even beyond in-class problems, clickers are extremely useful for collecting data. Many great teachable moments open up when introducing clickers into the activity. Students are actually participating in the process of learning about something really important and useful, and the example will stick with them much longer than the formula ever will. The chapter presents an useful demonstration to teach the normal distribution. This is also referred to as the Gaussian distribution, but most people know it as the “bell curve.” This is one of the most important probability distributions, because it applies to almost everything students can measure. With clickers, it is as simple as getting the students to type in their value. An additional component of the clicker that finds particularly helpful is the availability of smartphone application versions of the technology.
